This year saw one of the driest Springs for many years, which meant that the pumpkin seeds and plants had to be planted much deeper than normal just to reach moisture.

The pumpkins went into storage, ripening in a warm environment and allowing them to steadily turn to a more familiar shade of orange. |
| Even if pumpkins have some green patches on them, they will naturally turn orange given warmth. Often, leaving a pumpkin by a window will ripen it more quickly. |
