2009
Following a better summer than last year, the harvest has now been completed. The pumpkin festival was once again a success.
2008
This year has seen more wet weather, although not as much as 2007. The harvest has gone well, and any green pumpkins will once again be ripened in the temperature controlled facilities.
2007
The summer's extremely wet weather has affected large parts of the country, and Spalding was no exception. Rain initially threatened to delay planting in May, but luckily a break in the weather put things back on schedule.
The ideal weather for pumpkin growing is hot sunshine, which was not in abundance this year, and this has had the effect of slowing the pumpkins' growth somewhat.
By September, at the start of the harvest, most pumpkins were fully grown, but still mainly green.
Luckily, David Bowman Ltd's purpose built facilities allow warm storage of the crop in temperatures of around 25 celcius, which helps to ripen the pumpkins more rapidly.
Although some pumpkins may not be completely orange by the time they are purchased, they will ripen fully if kept in warm conditions. Children may be especially interested in following the pumpkins' progress as they turn orange.
